PDF Compressor
Private by design
Your files are processed by your browser, on this device. They are not uploaded to Hatchio or anyone else, and nothing is kept once you leave the page.
How it works
01Choose your PDF
Drop it into the box or choose it from your device.
02Pick a level
Recommended keeps images crisp. Balanced and Maximum make smaller files with softer images.
03Compare and download
We show the original size, the new size and the real reduction before you download.
A real example
An image-heavy sample PDF of 4 pages went from 831 KB to 142 KB with Recommended, 83% smaller. A text-only sample went from 7 KB to 4 KB.
Made with this tool on a sample file; the sizes are measured, not estimated.
Good to know
- Photos and scans are resized and saved again as JPEG, which is where most of the saving comes from.
- Text is never turned into an image, so it stays selectable and searchable.
- A PDF that is mostly text or already optimized may not get smaller, and we tell you when that happens.
- Black-and-white scans (CCITT, JBIG2), JPEG 2000 and print colours (CMYK) are left unchanged.
Questions and answers
How much smaller will my PDF get?
It depends on the file. PDFs with large photos or scans often shrink a lot; text-only PDFs change little. You see the measured result before you download.
Will my text become blurry?
No. Only images are recompressed. Text and vector drawings are kept as they are, or compressed losslessly.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The compression runs in your browser on your device, so the file never leaves it.
